Hanoras Cottage

Co. Waterford

A cottage, a church, and Hanora's Cottage nestle beside the tumbling River Nire in this delightfully wild and isolated spot on the edge of the Comeragh Mountains. Seamus's great-grandparents would not recognize their little cottage with its parade of sitting rooms, spacious restaurant, hot tub for eight in the conservatory, and array of spacious bedrooms. Small wonder that Hanora's was awarded Guesthouse of the Year in 1999.

Nine of the eleven bedrooms have Jacuzzi bathtubs-just for fun, reserve one of the three most spacious rooms whose bathrooms come equipped with Jacuzzi tubs for two.

Try to plan your stay to include a Saturday so you can accompany Seamus and Victor, the family dog, on their ramble and hear stories of the folklore and history of the rocky, heather-clad Comeraghs.

Whenever you come to stay, you can be sure of being well fed-Mary lays out a feast of a breakfast for which Seamus gets up early to bake a variety of breads.

In the evening son Eoin (pronounced "Owen") and his wife Judith offer a set, four-course dinner with lots of choices for starters and main courses. Packed lunches, maps, and directions are available for walks that range from leisurely woodland rambles to challenging hill hikes. If you're not worn out by walking, visit the local pubs for music and dancing.
