Introduction
The building was extended in the 1840's and became an hotel in 1845. Since then the hotel has played host to a number of renowned figures including Fr. Mathew the temperance priest, the writers Sir Walter Scott, William Makepeace Thackeray, Charles Dickens and the composer Liszt. Michael Collins, who negotiated the Free State Treaty in 1921 spent his last night in the hotel. Today, visitors come from all over the world to this landmark hotel.
Accommodation
The 88 bedrooms have been recently renovated to a very high standard. Beautifully decorated in shades of gold, the bedrooms include all the conveniences of a modern hotel:
Hospitality tray, iron and ironing board, trouser press, radio, telephone with voice mail, room service, television with satellite channels. Even the bathrooms have the added luxury of underfloor heating. The executive bedrooms have a DVD player, mini bar, computer modem and fax machine.
Facilities
The French style brasserie offers a comprehensive menu from take away coffee with pastries and sandwiches, to a four course menu to a dazzling range of breads for sandwiches and melts. Lafayette's open daily from 8.00am.
For the discerning diner, Clouds Restaurant opens daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The executive head chef and his award winning team will be pleased to discuss menus to suit every event. A la carte menus available for lunch and dinner. Clouds Bar is a haven of tranquility and the perfect meeting place. A comprehensive wine list is available.
